A couple of years ago Lydia went around Portland with a chalk board stopping at local landmarks to have a friend take a photo. She used the chalk board to write the location on so that her mother-in-law could have a glimpse of Portland. Portland has the most beautiful spring when the tree blossoms float to the streets and cover them in a flower snow.
Portland is a city of parks. All types of parks. The downtown area has the
park blocks running
north to
south ending in the midst of
Portland State University.

The University is an urban university and in a beautiful location that allows students and employees to commute via bicycle, walking, and mass transit.
Portland has some famous architecture and uncommon sculpture adorning buildings and parks.
This is the
Portland Building an architectural landmark in Portland and also the city government building. Designed by Michael Graves it has been a source of controversy and humor in a city accustomed to greasing the wheels of government with those items.

The Portland Saturday Market is in the Old Town Section of Town and attracts all types of artists, artisans and other vendor. Not to be confused with the Farm Market which occupies the South Park Blocks every Saturday May through October.


Below is Seward Johnson’s Allow Me, called the Umbrella Man by locals is a favorite site in Portland’s Living Room . This is the place where most paths cross and is the center of both the shopping and business district.

In the center of town is a huge open park and pavilion called Pioneer Square
where people hang about playing chess, drinking coffee, talking and hanging out. It is where many protests begin or end and where concerts and other events are staged. The bronze

Finally, because Portland always has her eye on the world the square also has direction markers for some of the great destinations in the world.
