Something to Think About With Your Morning Latte

I read a couple of blog posts this morning reflecting on the Obama thirty minute piece last night. These posts were from the conservative point of view. I do not understand how there can be such divergent takes on the same film. I saw a brilliant film showcasing a man who is in touch with the people of this country. One who has ideas that make tremendous sense to me and one that was utterly touching and poignant.

On the other hand these bloggers saw a manipulative, insincere, so forth and so on. I think I am objective and I tend to be overly analytical to the extent that I tend to forget to stop and appreciate. I try to search through to find the positive and the negative when viewing opponents. Our two best friends are conservative Republicans and they are wonderful. We agree to not discuss politics. So, I do wonder when I see such a complete example of “not getting it” if I am guilty of simply not getting it about McCain/Palin. I like to think not since I took years to determine my position on issues. It was years spent in the politically conservative predominantly Republican subculture of the U. S. Navy thinking and rethinking my views and finally focusing in when I retired and really explored all sides.

I don’t like the politics of the GOP candidates and I don’t think I would like working with them or for them. I don’t think I would even want to socialize with them. I also know from my Navy days that people can be err difficult at work and charming off duty. I believe that Barack Obama is a good person and a man who really wants to make a difference. I believe I would like and respect him and enjoy his company under any circumstance. I think John McCain believes he wants to make a difference but I am unsure that he is in touch with his real drive. I think Sarah Palin is interested in being in high profile powerful positions to push her own ideology.

Okay, so I believe I am being fair and objective. So, do these people who write so strongly and negatively about my candidates do so in a fair and objective manner and I just don’t get it? A puzzle.
