Onedia in the Ozarks

Floating Down the White River in December

I have been thinking through a post prompted by the Arkansas ballot vote to deny adoption and fostering to any persons co-habitating in a sexual relationship. I think we all know that is of an ilk to Prop 8 and I have plenty to say about it.

However, that can wait for a very positive post about something I would like you to consider following. Some of you know that in June I launched a Community magazine online, The Bull Shoals Beacon. One of the writers on the Beacon connected me with a young woman who is part of a remarkable event, The Fifth Annual Hospice of the Ozarks Float For Life. On December 4, a group of people will launch jon boats (flat-bottomed boats) and begin a 418 mile trek down the White River to the Mississippi for the fifth consecutive year.

The float is a fund raiser for our local hospice and there is a great story behind it. Andra is telling the story both past and present and will be the first woman to make the river journey. She will post updates along the route.

So, with this post I am inviting your to come to the Beacon to read Andra’s articles and you may also want to go to I-Report for a joint article by Andra and myself about the float. We are hoping it gets picked up by CNN for some additonal sponsorship.

You can also get a sponsor form at the Beacon if you would like to sponsor at a rate of ten cents per mile or more.
