Why can’t some of our Republican lawmakers in Washington place a higher priority on providing affordable health care options than on holding the party line? They seem to care more about their party than about the people they represent. This has been a battle waged between the two parties for a hundred years. Shameful.

Did anyone see “Joe the you know what” on Bill Maher? Bill tried to discuss the “socialist” label that he and other Republicans assigned to President Obama in the campaign. Joe is on a book stump and a one-man mission to fix America. He  thinks it wrong to penalize (tax) people who worked hard or benefited from good breaks (that is they are the very wealthy) and give it to people who are not successful   because these  slackers and losers do not deserve a fair share from the success of the wealthy. Did I get that right?

Why do the people who say that nuclear power is safer and cheaper than other sustainable energy sources such as solar and wind NEVER address the issue of disposing of the waste that is generated by nuclear power? Do they even know that we must find safe means and places for disposal and this cost NEVER goes away?

There should be an intelligence test required before a member of congress or senator can be sworn into office.  We should hold each state accountable for certifying that the elected officials they send to Washington are neither fools nor dimwits.  Those failing the intelligence test should be returned to sender COD.

  1. A safe, long term method for disposal of nuclear waste has been in development for years, but has essentially been abandoned by eliminating funding for it from the federal budget. I voted for the president, but on this issue, I am severely disappointed. The federal government has a longstanding legal obligation to assume control of spent nuclear fuel, which was supposed to commence in the 1980s.

I am firmly convinced of the safety of nuclear power – and I have significant experience with spent nuclear fuel.

The people that are sent to Congress are generally quite intelligent. Unfortunately, their politics trump their intelligence all too often. Any litmus test for anything other than being duly elected would be unconstitutional.

I don’t know what has happened to make you want to leave Arkansas, but I can imagine. You once said that I was slightly left of center, but that’s something that even my closest friends and associates would not know. I don’t often participate in political or religious discussions. I just listen in silent amazement.

Mike, thanks for the input about the nuclear power. The issues of energy is very complex and I was listening to Bill Maher and one of the guests made the blanket statement I referred to . We must pursue all options that are sustainable and non harmful.

    The intelligence test was tongue-in-cheek.

  3. Well I’m not convinced of the safety of nuclear power or its disposal. And why would we use a potentailly lethal energy sources when there are perfectly safely renewable energies out there which just need the funding and development? The fossil fuel and nuclear lobbies have too much power and influence.

Mrs T. Nice to see ya. Yep there are way too many problems that just don’t get discussed. Besides, a big wind farm is beautiful and those nuclear plants are just ugly.
