Taking the Scenic Route

Haven’t written here since summer. I find that it is time again to let this blog space rest for a while so that I can work again on the Bull Shoals Beacon.  That is the community news magazine that I began in 2008.  Please come by there and read it.  There are lots of little posts about upcoming events in the community, but we also have a middle-school author who gives us poems, short essays and book reviews.

We have some regular columns including One Woman’s Opinion which is a mini Onedia in the Ozarks.  In it I write about the same types of things I write here.  My friend Chaplain Grace writes Monday Meditations with short inspirational pieces.  Nellie Nutrition is the pen name of a local woman who is trying to be more fit, lose some weight and take better care of herself.  She writes a regular column , Nellie’s Journal.  Andra, another friend , tends to focus a lot on the communities around the lake.  She currently is writing a series of articles about an annual event to raise money for our local hospice.  Each December 4th  several of the flat bottomed Jon boats launch near our dam to make a five day and 400 mile float trip on the White River to the Mississippi River.  Andra goes on the float (her husband is one of the original participants) takes photos and writes about each day and posts it on the Beacon.

We also have some other regular contributors and continually look for more.  I of course am the webmaster for the Beacon.  We are on Facebook and you can go there and become a fan of our little community news magazine.  I hope to give you something interesting to read on the Beacon and I will be sharing some of my favorite blogs with the local readers .  I think the Beacon is an important project for me , the other writers, and for our community.  So, once again I invite you to a detour to see some different sites in the Ozarks.

So, I invite you to add the Beacon to your feed.

O.
